Differences in influencing factors for self-efficacy in survivors with breast cancer between under and over fifty years old
Kim Mi-Jung
Abstract
Purpose:Self-efficacy is known for improving self-care capacity in cancer survivors. Therefore, this study aimed to identify influencing factors for self-efficacy in survivors of breast cancer and to compare differences depending on age.

Methods:This study was a cross-sectional study including 102 survivors of breast cancer. Exposure was age groups categorized as under 50 years old (£¼50; n=42); and over 50 years old (¡Ã50; n=60). Variables analyses Data were analyzed for descriptive statistics and multiple regression using the SPSS 26.0 program.

Results:Factors influencing self-efficacy were different between the two groups. A group with over 50 years old had a level of distress (¥â=-.455, p£¼.001) and social support (¥â=.271, p£¼.05), which explained 64.0% of the self-efficacy. On the contrary, the under 50 years old group showed depression(¥â=-.491, p£¼.05), and anxiety (¥â=-.415, p£¼.05), which explained 24.5% of the variance in self-efficacy.

Conclusion:Strategies to improve self-efficacy in breast cancer survivors should be considered for age differences. Especially, women over 50 years old are needed to decrease distress and to increase social support. Contrariwise, it is important to reduce depression and anxiety in women under 50 years old.
